6 Must-Visit Ribbon Ridge Wineries in Newberg, Oregon

If you’re in search of some of the best Pinot Noir in Oregon, Ribbon Ridge wineries should be at the top of your list.

It may be the smallest AVA in the Willamette Valley, but it’s bursting with boutique producers focusing on quality over quantity. So, your visit feels personal, not commercial.

Plus, it’s perfect for eco-conscious travelers, with many vineyards certified sustainable or biodynamic.

Whether you’re a seasoned wine lover or just looking for a laid-back tasting with stunning views, Ribbon Ridge has it all.

As a certified wine expert, I’ve personally visited and tasted my way through the region. And I can’t wait to share my top picks from this special corner of Oregon.

These Ribbon Ridge and Newberg wineries stand out for their exceptional wines, beautiful views, and wonderful hospitality. I recommend sticking to three per day so you have time to fully enjoy each one.

1. Domaine Divio

A rustic red wooden winery building with large windows and a gravel parking area in front. Adirondack chairs and umbrellas can be seen in the distance, offering outdoor seating with views of the vineyard.

If you only visit one winery in Ribbon Ridge, make it this one. The wines are outstanding, and the property looks like something out of a painting.

Jacob, who hosted my tasting, made the experience extra special. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about Domaine Divio’s history, the wines, and the region.

The winemaker, Bruno Corneaux, is a fourth-generation grape grower from Burgundy, France. He’s worked around the world, including starting Tahiti’s first successful vineyard.

Though he still has his family vineyard in Beaune, Bruno was ready for something new. In 2014, he found the perfect spot in Ribbon Ridge for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Using sustainable and biodynamic practices, his wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Beyond Domaine Divio, Bruno also manages over 1,000 acres of vineyards through NW Wine, giving him access to top-tier fruit from the region.

  • Wines to Try: All of the Pinot Noirs were excellent, with concentrated fruit and so much complexity. I particularly loved the Clos Gallia Estate and the Hyland Vineyard. And the Pinot Beurot (Burgundy’s name for Pinot Gris) is the perfect summer white with bright acidity and lemon custard notes.
  • Tasting Options: Enjoy a flight or upgrade to the wine and food pairing experience.
  • Food: Cheese and charcuterie boards, plus snacks like nuts and olives.
  • Visiting Tips: Reservations are required, and it’s 21+ only. Groups limited to 6 guests.

2. Patricia Green Cellars

The exterior of the Patricia Green Winery, a blue building with a large white "PG" logo on the side. The building is surrounded by landscaped gardens with various shrubs, flowers, and greenery leading up to a set of steps at the entrance.

If you want to do a deep dive on Pinot Noir, this is the place. Patricia Green Cellars produces more Pinot bottlings than anyone else in the U.S.

Patricia Green and Jim Anderson bought the winery in 2000, keeping the old vines from the former Autumn Wind winery that were planted back in the ‘80s. Since Patty passed in 2017, Jim and the team have continued her legacy.

They farm organically, use sustainable practices like dry farming, and even power the winery with solar energy.

For the tasting, I like that the wines are poured side-by-side. So, you can really compare the differences between growing sites.

The patio is a great spot to relax, with beautiful views of the vineyard. Plus, you get a mini charcuterie plate to enjoy with your wine!

  • Wines to Try: Of the many Pinot Noirs I tasted, my favorites were the Estate Vineyard Coury Clone with its bright red fruits. And the Ridgecrest Vineyard, which had a bit more spice and herbal notes.
  • Tasting Options: The classic tasting includes a guided flight of their current vintage Pinot Noirs and a white wine. They also offer seasonal tours of the property.
  • Food: Small cheese and charcuterie plate included with tasting.
  • Visiting Tips: Reservations required for groups up to 8. Contact for larger groups up to 20. They are 21+ and do not allow pets.

3. Beaux Frères (and Sequitur Wine)

A rustic wooden cabin with a large overhanging roof, surrounded by lush greenery. A stone pathway leads through the garden to the entrance, flanked by tall trees.

Beaux Frères is one of the OG and most famous wineries in Ribbon Ridge. It’s also one of the priciest. But the wines are exceptional.

When I visited, their tasting room was under renovation. So, my tasting was held next door at Sequitur Wine. I sat in a cozy nook with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the forest.

Both wineries were founded by Michael G. Etzel. He bought the Beaux Frères property in the mid-1980s. At first, he sold grapes to other pioneering winemakers in the region. Then in 1991, he released his own first vintage.

In 2010, Michael convinced his neighbor to sell his 60-acre Douglas fir farm. That land became the start of Sequitur. Now, Michael’s son, Mikey, runs Beaux Frères and shares winemaking responsibilities at both wineries.

  • Wines to Try: They make a beautiful Old-World-style Chardonnay with just a touch of oak. I also loved the Jessie James Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, with dark fruit and velvety tannins. For a leaner and brighter style, try the Pinot Noir Star Mooring Vineyard.
  • Tasting Options: Book the Classic for a guided tasting of 4 wines. Or the Panoramic option includes a tour and extended tasting of their rarer wines.
  • Food: Check the calendar for events like farm dinners and truffle experiences.
  • Visiting Tips: Reservations are required. Make sure to check your booking confirmation for details on the tasting location.

4. Eminent Domaine

A covered patio with cushioned wooden chairs arranged in a semi-circle, facing a vineyard with rolling hills in the background. The seating area provides a peaceful view of the lush landscape.

Perched on top of a hill, this spectacular spot offers sweeping views of the vineyards and valley below. Plus, the wines are top notch too!

The name “Eminent Domaine” has an interesting backstory. It’s a nod to the legal term “eminent domain” because the owner, Jeff Meader, had to give up his previous property to the government. He took that challenge as a chance to invest in this land and dive into winemaking.

Jeff planted the vines in 2009 and bottled the first vintage in 2011. Since then, they’ve added a gorgeous tasting room. And in 2018, the whole family moved onto the estate.

If you’re looking to stay longer, Eminent Domaine even has a wine country vacation rental just a couple miles down the road. The “Little Farm Cottage” sits on another 9 acres of vineyards where you can visit the family’s pigs, chickens, and barn cats.

  • Wines to Try: The tasting included multiple vintages of their Estate Pinot Noir. I enjoyed comparing the cooler 2019 to the fruit-forward, intense 2021. Their Provence-style rosé was also a standout, with bright acidity and delicious stone fruit flavors.
  • Tasting Options: The classic wine tasting includes samples of 5 current releases.
  • Food: Bring your own picnic to enjoy on the lawn or in the pergola.
  • Visiting Tips: Reservations are required, and groups limited to 8. Kids are welcome but leave the pups at home (the family dog is on site).

5. Utopia Vineyard

Two wooden Adirondack chairs are placed at the edge of a vineyard, offering a peaceful view of rows of grapevines, with dense trees and rolling hills in the distance.

For a more laid-back vibe, Utopia Vineyard calls themselves “an approachable and safe haven for the wine interested.”

Founder Dan Warnshuis started in Napa but fell in love with the Willamette Valley. In 2000, he found the perfect south-facing slope in Ribbon Ridge. It wasn’t for sale, but that didn’t stop him. He knocked on the door and asked to buy it on the spot.

It’s a family-run place where everyone pitches in. I did my tasting with Dan’s daughter Erin, who expertly walked me through their wines in the rustic barn setting.

Outside, they’ve set up bocce courts, picnic tables, and Adirondack chairs around a fire pit. It’s a great spot to hang out with friends while enjoying a glass or two!

  • Wines to Try: If you’ve never tried a vertical tasting, this is a great place to do it. I sampled Pinot Noirs from four consecutive vintages and really noticed the differences from year to year. The 2016 and 2016 Reserve were my favorites. They also make a delicious port-style wine from Tempranillo.
  • Tasting Options: Tastings take place in the barn or on the patio. Sample your way through various vintages of Pinot Noir, as well as Utopia’s other white and rosé wines.
  • Visiting Tips: Reservations are recommended, especially for groups of 8+. Utopia also participates in the Priority Wine Pass. Learn more about wine passports.

6. King’s North

The exterior of King's North tasting room, a blue barn-style building on a grassy hillside, with outdoor seating and people enjoying the space.

While not technically in Ribbon Ridge, King’s North is a newer producer in Newberg that’s worth a visit. Their tasting room is open on weekends only, but it’s a real gem.

Brothers Sid and Mac Heinze are incredibly talented and already producing impressive wines. They also make you feel right at home, ending each tasting with a complimentary coffee and homemade chocolate chip cookie!

Originally from Wisconsin, Sid and Mac caught the wine bug while studying abroad in Australia. They dipped their toes into the industry by interning for harvests in the Willamette Valley. Soon after, they made the move permanent, and the rest of their family followed.

Sid, a viticulturalist, worked several harvests before becoming a vineyard manager. Mac has been in wine sales and is finishing his enology degree.

Their 5-acre vineyard is farmed entirely by the Heinze family. And everyone pitches in on weekends to host guests in the open-air tasting room overlooking the vines.

  • Wines to Try: I loved the bright red fruits and balanced acidity of their estate Pinot Noir Blend 1. The Horse Heaven Hills AVA Syrah was also delicious, with juicy blueberry and black pepper notes. And their Pinot Noir Rosé is perfect for a warm day, with tangy cherry flavors.
  • Tasting Options: Sample a flight of wines or enjoy by the glass or bottle.
  • Food: Meat and cheese boards are available for purchase. Complimentary coffee and a cookie or chocolate included with your tasting.
  • Visiting Tips: Reservations are required, and they’re only open on weekends. King’s North is family and dog friendly.
