10 Best Solvang Wineries
1. Alma Rosa Winery
If you’re a Pinot Noir lover, Alma Rosa’s downtown wine tasting room should be your first stop.
Richard Sanford was the first to plant Pinot Noir in the Santa Rita Hills. And after founding two wineries, he and his wife Thekla launched Alma Rosa in 2005. Their estate vineyard was also the first to be certified organic in Santa Barbara County.
Since 2014, Bob and Barb Zorich have carried on their legacy. And winemaker Samra Morris, supported by consultant Tony Biagi, crafts small-batch wines with a focus on sustainability. Stop by to taste cool-climate styles of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Grenache.

You’ll also find Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from their Santa Catalina Island vineyard. And they source from high-quality growers in the Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley AVAs.
Geoff and Alison Rusack founded the winery in 1995 and oversee the vineyard. While winemaker Steven Gerbac has been producing their exceptional wines for nearly 20 years.

3. Rideau Vineyard
Located five minutes from downtown, this one-time ranch and guest house is now the home of Rhône varietals like Grenache, Syrah, and Viognier.
Iris Rideau became the first female African American winery owner in the U.S. when she founded Rideau Vineyard in 1997.
Martin and Isabelle Gauthier purchased the boutique winery in 2016. And Sonoma-raised Adrienne St. John oversees making their world-class wines.
Grapes from the organic vineyards are hand-harvested. And wild yeast and whole cluster fermentation keep the wines true to their roots.

For farm-to-table treats and fantastic wines, head next door to Buttonwood Farm Winery.
Betty Williams founded this working farm in the ’60s. Starting with horses and vegetables, the vineyard was added in 1983. Buttonwood is known for Bordeaux varietals like Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. And more recently they’ve added Rhône varieties.
The beautiful farm is the perfect place to relax and enjoy their estate-grown wines. You can also pick up products like homemade peach preserves. And peruse co-owner Seyburn Zorthian’s artwork in the wine tasting room.

5. Dascomb Cellars
For one of the OG Cabernet Sauvignon producers, check out Dascomb Cellars.
Don Dascomb planted this sun-loving variety in their East Valley Vineyard back in 1974. Located in what’s now the Happy Canyon AVA, these vines were among the first to reveal the region’s potential for Bordeaux grapes.
After years of refining, the family has perfected their Bordeaux-style wines. Today, Don’s son David carries on the signature style. And he’s expanded Dascomb’s lineup to include Rhône and Burgundy-style wines.

If you’re a fan of Italian wines, don’t miss Toccata. This Tuscan-style tasting room features traditional Italian varietals like Sangiovese, Barbera, and Pinot Grigio.

8. Lucas & Lewellen
After visiting Toccata, pop across the street to its sister winery for half off your tasting. And sample wines from three Santa Barbara County growing areas.
Louis Lucas was one of the region’s first commercial grape growers. In 1996, he teamed up with former Superior Court Judge Royce Lewellen, a long-time friend and wine enthusiast. The two founded Lucas & Lewellen vineyards, with Royce’s son Michael taking over the family biz in 2009.
The 400 estate acres are spread across Santa Maria Valley, Los Alamos Valley, and Santa Ynez Valley. These diverse growing areas mean they can produce a wide variety of wines, including Rhône, Bordeaux, and Burgundy varieties.

Step into Casa Cassara‘s tasting room, and you’ll feel like you’re part of the family. This festive spot was named Solvang’s 2020 winery of the year.
Dan Cassara and his father Bennie planted the first Pinot Noir vines on the family ranch back in 1992. Initially selling the grapes to Babcock Winery, Casa Cassara produced their first vintage in 1999.
Since then, Dan expanded the winery’s focus to Italian varieties, honoring the family’s roots. And he shares his wines with each guest like they’re old friends.
