101 Winery Passports to Save You Money in Wine Country

Dreaming of exploring wine country without breaking the bank? A wine passport could be your golden ticket to tasting on a budget.

These days free tastings are hard to come by. And with the price of a flight climbing, a wine getaway can seem like a luxury splurge.

But if you’re a savvy sipper, you know winery passports can help cut costs. These paid and free passes can score you 2-for-1 tastings, discounts on wine purchases, and free swag. You can even win sweet prizes like cases of wine, private tastings with winemakers, and vineyard vacations.

As a wine expert, I’ve tasted my way through many wine regions. And I’ve experienced firsthand how wine passes can slash your spending. So, I put together this complete list to help you sip and save at wineries throughout North America!

An assortment of wine passports and guides laid out, featuring the Texas Wine Country Map & Guide, Monticello Wine Trail, Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail Guide, and a Maine Wine Trail Passport with a checklist of wineries.

Insider Tips for Using Winery Passports

Wine passports can be a great tool for saving on your vineyard adventures. But they work best when you do a little homework.

Here are my top tips to make sure the passport you pick really pays off. And that you’re all set to use it without a hitch!

  • Check the Wineries Before You Buy: Look over the list of wineries included in the passport. Make sure they’re places you actually want to visit. And that they’re open when you plan to go. Some might be closed during the off-season or have limited hours.
  • Confirm the Passport Dates: Look closely at the dates the passport is good for. Some are only valid for a limited time or on certain days. And you might not be able to use them on busy weekends.
  • Match the Pass to Your Party: See if the passport is right for the number of people you’re traveling with. Some are perfect for one. Others are great for two or more. Traveling solo? Passes that focus on 2-for-1 tastings may not be worth it for you.
  • Book Ahead: It’s essential winery etiquette to check if you need reservations, especially during peak season or at popular spots. Also, some tasting rooms require a heads-up if you’re planning to use a passport.
  • Don’t Forget to Tip: Your passport most likely doesn’t cover gratuities. So, remember to tip the winery staff, especially after a great tasting experience!

Armed with these tips and a wine passport in hand, you’ll be set to explore wine country without stretching your budget. Cheers to discovering new wines and making unforgettable memories!
